 Below please find information that may be helpful in registering your vehicle in Maine.

New Registrations - Purchased from Maine Licensed Dealer

Documents Needed:

  • Green Dealer's Certificate (proof of sales tax paid)  
  • Blue Title Application (if model is 1995 or newer)  
  • Evidence of Insurance
  • Current Mileage

* If vehicle is brand new, you must ALSO provide the manufacturers suggested retail price sticker (window sticker).

New Registrations - Purchased through Private Sale or an out of state Dealer:

Documents Needed:  

  • Signed Bill of Sale  
  • Title signed over to new owner ( if model is 1995 or newer)  
  • Evidence of Insurance
  • Current Mileage

     * If you would like to transfer plates from one vehicle to another, you must provide the old yellow registration.

Registration Renewals:

  • Evidence of Insurance
  • Current Mileage

Issuance of Hunting and Fishing Licenses

  • To obtain a resident firearms hunting license customer must provide proof of a prior adult firearms hunting license issued since 1976 or proof of successfully completing a hunter safety course.
  • To obtain a resident archery hunting license customer must provide proof of a prior adult archery hunting license issued since 1980 or proof of successfully completing an archery hunter safety course.
  • To obtain a resident adult fishing license customer must provide proof of residency.
  • Fishing licenses are not required of residents under the age of 16.
  • Licenses and permits may be obtained on-line at www.mefishwildlife.com

Registration of Boats, Snowmobiles, and ATV's 

New Registrations - Purchased from a Maine Licensed Dealer

Documents Needed:  

  • Green Dealer Certificate (proof of sales tax payment)  
  • Warranty form for new ATV's and snowmobiles  
  • Maine registration number if previously registered in Maine  

New Registrations - Purchased through Private Sale

Documents Needed:

  • Signed Bill of Sale  
  • Maine registration number if previously registered in Maine

Dog Licenses

  • Each owner or keeper of a dog at the age of 6 months or more, on or before January 1st of each year shall obtain a license.  
  • Valid State of Maine rabies certificates are needed for each dog license.  
  • A dog owner or keeper shall pay a fee of 10.00 for each dog 6 months or older capable of producing young.  
  • A dog owner or keeper shall pay a fee of $6.00 for each dog 6 months or older that is incapable of producing young (written certificate from veterinarian required).
  • After January 31st, a late fee of $25.00 per dog in addition to the annual license fee shall be paid.
  • A person having a pack or collection of dogs for the purposes of breeding, hunting, show, training, field trials, and exhibition shall pay a fee of $42.00 for a kennel license.  A kennel owner may not keep more than 10 dogs per license.  Rabies certificates required for each dog.
  • Dogs may be licensed on line at www.doglicensing.com from October 15 - January 31st. The On-line fee is an additional $1.00 (Vender Fee).

Vital Statistics Records

  • Recording of Vital Statistics Records (births, deaths, marriages, etc.) and issuance of certified copies.  
  • Certified copies of birth, death, or marriage license - $15.00 for the first copy and $6.00 for each additional copy for the same at the same time.
  • Burial permits - $20.00  
  • Marriage Licenses - $40.00

Title 31: PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSOCIATIONS - Chapter 1: MERCANTILE PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSUMED BUSINESS NAMES

§2. Business under assumed name; filing of certificate

Whenever any person intends to engage in such business as sole proprietor thereof, and to adopt any business name, style or designation other than his own name exclusively, he shall, before commencing business, deposit in the office of the clerk of the city or town in which such business is to be carried on a certificate signed and sworn to by him, setting forth his name and place of residence, the name, style or designation under which the business is to be conducted, and stating that he is the sole proprietor.

Title 31: PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSOCIATIONS
Chapter 1: MERCANTILE PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSUMED BUSINESS NAMES

§1. Filing of certificate; certificate of withdrawal

Whenever 2 or more persons become associated as partners or otherwise for the purpose of engaging in any mercantile enterprise, they shall, before commencing business, deposit in the office of the clerk of the city or town in which the same is to be carried on a certificate signed and sworn to by them, setting forth their names and places of residence, the nature of the business in which they intend to engage and giving the name under which they are to transact business. Whenever any member of such partnership or association withdraws therefrom, he may certify under oath to the fact of such withdrawal, which certificate shall be deposited in the clerk's office where the partnership certificate is recorded. He shall conclusively be presumed to be a member of the firm or association to the time of his depositing such certificate.
