Completed:
On December 6, 2025 the Acton EMA Volunteers completed a three hour course in Shelter Fundamentals given by the Red Cross.
On August 13, 2025 the Select Board signed the “Town of Acton, Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)”.
The EMA Volunteers have finalized a Shelter SOP (standard operating procedure) for use by them in the event of an activation of Acton’s primary shelter.
The York County EMA (YCEMA) provided an additional sheltering class to the Acton EMA Volunteers on July 28, 2025 at the Town Hall. The County EMA Director and Deputy Director were in attendance to show their support.
As of 6/16/2025, we have Fourteen EMA volunteers.
Ten of our volunteers have completed the York County EMA CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. This represents 25% of the total for all of York County, well done!
On April 12, 2025, the Town Meeting approved the “Emergency Management Ordinance”.
We have established primary and secondary local warming/cooling centers.
We have established the Acton Elementary School as a RED CROSS supported shelter.
We have integrated Acton’s local alerting functionality into the County’s RAVE alerting system, which allows us to include separate templates for the Emergency Assistance Registry points of contact, EMA Volunteer alerting and local alerts as required.
We have increased the Town of Acton’s RAVE participation by 250% since January 2025.

Ongoing:
The Acton EMA Volunteers will be performing a shelter setup exercise on 1/24/2026.
Emergency Alerting:
RAVE is a system that enables the agencies and towns within York County to provide you with critical and non-critical information in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, planned and unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations, natural disasters, and public health concerns. The York County Emergency Management Agency and local towns, use RAVE to communicate with the public. RAVE sends notifications via text message, a phone call, or email. How you receive information, depends on how you customize your account preferences.
Important Note: Be sure to create a Smart911 profile if you want to receive alerts from your local town otherwise, you will only receive countywide alerts.
You can sign up for RAVE by creating a Smart911 profile at the following link: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=YorkCountyMaineEMA
Important Note: Those submitting the “Emergency Assistance Registry” form and providing an email address, will receive an email confirmation request from the County RAVE system pictured below. Once received, click on the “Confirm My Email Address” link (top image) and receive the confirmation (bottom image).
